Understand a quotation and its revision
Compare the actual quoted scope with the source requirement before making a commercial decision.
Current Revision 3 Reviewed Oct 29, 2026
Before you begin#
Use the quotation issued for your requirement and the correct revision. Sign in to the authorized Materials application for private Quotation records. Public catalog descriptions are not a replacement for your quotation.
Review the quoted basis#
- Match material/equipment, grade, configuration, dimensions, quantity, units and revision to the original requirement.
- Check the proposed product and manufacturer, exceptions and the documentation explicitly confirmed available.
- Review freight, processing, taxes/exclusions, minimum quantities, delivery basis, quote validity, payment terms and any applicable warranty terms in the actual quotation.
A request for a certificate or test report is not confirmation that it can be supplied. Raise unclear scope or unconfirmed terms before acceptance.
Keep revisions traceable#
Reference the original inquiry and quote revision when requesting clarification. Keep the superseded and current responses distinguishable. Technical equivalency and commercial commitments require authorized human review; an assistant response or sourcing estimate is not a binding customer quote.
